According to Savalan Sesi, South Azerbaijani human rights defence website, Mr. Ebrahim Rashidi, author, poet, former student and human rights activist, was detained today on 6^th of July. He was sent to Urmu prison to endure 5 month prison sentence because of his civil nationalistic activities.
He graduated from Urmu University in Mechanical engineering. He is one of the founder of Azer Topraq NGO, one of the founders and secretary of Ostad Shahriyar institution in Urmu university, head of Ulduz student publication in Urmu university, head of Bulut publication, author in Bakhish, and Oyanish publications and Turkish language teacher in Urmu university and medical university of Urmu.
He had been imprisoned in intelligence service prisons in Urmu, Ahar, Ardabil and Evin prison before.
He had been detained on 31, May, 2006. For two months he was under torture and interrogation in intelligence service prison of Urmu. After releasing by bail, on behalf of Urmu court he had been sentenced to sustain five months prison as well as 20 lashes. Revision court converted 20 lashes into 50000 Tomans (App. 60 USD).
